Learner response: OSP assessment

Your learner response is as follows:

1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

WWW: Lots to credit here, Q1 is solid and would be top level with a little more depth and clarity. In Q2 you have clearly revised impressively and just need to work on exam technique to move up the levels.

EBI: Q2 needed improving, this means that the question is asking if the media as a whole is dominated by a narrow range of of vales. You should use Teen Vogue and The Voice to provide evidence for this, with practice on question focus and essay planning i'm confident you will make good progress.

2) Read the whole mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify three specific aspects from Figure 1 (the Google Home advert) that you could have mentioned in your answer (e.g. selection of image, framing and focus, colour, text etc.)

Three points I could have mentioned in Q1 would've been;

- The dominant reading, the colour of the google home reinforced by the neutral grey device suggested that is available for everyone and is safe.

- The negotiated reading, the device is made for everyone and the usefulness of the google home.

- The counter reading, the women taking care of her two children at home would reinforce traditional gender stereotypes. 

3) Now use the mark scheme to identify three potential points that you could have made in your essay for Question 2 (Hesmondhalgh - narrow range of values and ideologies).

The three points that I could have made in Q2;

- The role of the cultural industries in society and the way media products can influence or

impact on audiences.

- The way values and ideologies are constructed through the representations in the products.

- How media industries target audiences through the content and appeal of media products

and through the ways in which they are marketed, distributed and circulated.

4) Use your exam response, the mark scheme and any other resources you wish to use to write a detailed essay plan for Question 2. Make sure you are planning at least four well-developed paragraphs in addition to an introduction and conclusion.

Introduction - Answer the question

Paragraph 1- Give an argument that would agree with the statement (include theorist) Teen Vogue.

Paragraph 2- Give a rebuttal argument that would disagree with the statement (include theorist).

Paragraph 3- Give another argument that would agree with the statement for The voice.

paragraph 4 - Write a paragraph that includes both Teen Vogue and The voice with another theorist that links with the question. 

Conclusion- Write an conclusion that links back to the question. 

5) Finally, identify three key areas you plan to revise from the OSP unit (CSP aspects or theories) having looked at your feedback from this assessment.

The three key areas i wish to revise from the OSP unit would be having a deeper knowledge on Hesmondhalgh's theories, my question focus and finally focus on essay planning.
